Video clues pastor that Silas wasn’t a woman
Why did the Apostle Paul claim to be a bachelor if he was married? Or if he wasn’t married, why was he traveling around with a woman named Silas?
Many Mayans may not have asked this question outright, but the misconception has apparently been on the minds of many people — even Guatemalan pastors and lay leaders.
One pastor saw the Visual Bible’s video series on the book of Acts, adapted by Viña Association into his own language. He was quite surprised to see that Silas was not a woman but a man!
The confusion results from Spanish masculine and feminine word endings. In Spanish, names ending with the letter “-a,” such as “Rosa,” are always feminine, as are words ending with “-as.” So people naturally assumed that a name like Silas that ends with the letters “as” refers to a woman.
